Job Summary
Under the general direction of neurodiagnostic leadership, the Principal Neurodiagnostic Technologist serves as an advanced clinical specialist, subject matter expert, and technical leader within Neurodiagnostic Services. The position independently performs routine, advanced, and highly specialized neurodiagnostic procedures, including routine and ambulatory EEG, continuous long-term monitoring, scalp and stereotactic EEG monitoring, electrocorticography, ISAP/Wada, and SPECT procedures. In addition to advanced patient care, the position provides Principal-level leadership responsibilities, including ensuring technical integrity and consistency of neurodiagnostic procedures, serving as a clinical and technical resource, providing staff education and guidance, and acting as a liaison with leadership and interdepartmental partners. The Principal Neurodiagnostic Technologist also supports EEG databases, equipment, work areas, supplies, quality improvement, and Joint Commission readiness while practicing in accordance with UC Davis Health policies, ABRET and ACNS guidelines, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements. - American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
- Must be a Registered EEG Technologist (R.EEG.T) certified by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologists (ABRET)
- Must obtain ABRET CLTM credential within two (2) years of hire
- Minimum four (4) years as a registered EEG/Neurodiagnostic Technologist in a hospital setting
- Experience in one or more advanced Neurodiagnostic procedures: WADA, ECOG, Laser Ablation, Cortical Stim, SPECT, PET, SSEP, Phase II, or Live Continuous Monitoring
- Experience in both pediatric and adult patient populations
- Skilled in performing advanced skills in routine EEG Examinations
- Skilled to perform Continuous EEG/Video monitoring in an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
- Skilled in performing evoked potentials such as Auditory Evoked Potentials (AEP/BAER), Visual Evoked Potentials (VEP), and Somatosensory Evoked Potentials (SSEP)
- Ability to perform advanced neurodiagnostic procedures: Electrocorticography (ECoG), Laser Ablation Surgical Monitoring (LITT), Wada Test / Intracarotid Sodium Amobarbital Procedure (Wada), Ictal Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT), and Cortical Stimulation
- Skilled in Continuous Long-Term Monitoring (set up and disconnect)
- Skilled in Phase I Continuous Long-Term Monitoring (set up and disconnect)
- Skilled in Extended EEG Monitoring
- Skilled in ambulatory outpatient EEG (set up and disconnect)
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of current trends in Neurodiagnostic (EEG)
- Basic computer skills
- Skills and ability to measure and accurately apply disc electrodes to those predetermined areas utilizing knowledge of the International 10/20 system
- Knowledge of electrode placement to accurately monitor physiological artifacts and apply additional electrodes
- Knowledge and skill levels in area of expertise to ensure the provision of the highest quality patient care services
- Must have the ability to apply basic principles and practices of neurodiagnostic technology to novel techniques and develop expertise in performing complex neurodiagnostic procedures
- Interpersonal communication skills to interact with tact and diplomacy with hospital and clinic patients, physicians, and staff at all levels
- Ability to engage in collaborative problem-solving with coworkers and staff

Preferred Qualifications
- Continuous Long-Term Monitoring (CLTM) credential through ABRET
- NeuroAnalyst Certification for Long-Term Monitoring (NA-CLTM) credential through ABRET
- Graduation from an EEG school/program
- Three (3) years of senior or lead neurodiagnostic technologist experience
- Experience in Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU)
- Experience in an acute care setting as an EEG Technician/Technologist
- Experience in monitoring live continuous EEG tracings
- Experience working with interdisciplinary healthcare providers
- Experience in an academic medical center environment
- Skilled in Continuous Real-Time Long-Term EEG Monitoring at EMU Monitoring Station

Work Environment
- UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. - Work is performed in hospital and outpatient laboratory settings as part of a 24/7 Neurodiagnostic Services operation.
- This position works a night-shift schedule from 6:30 PM-7:00 AM, consisting of three (3) 12-hour shifts per week with an additional fourth shift every third week, in accordance with the AFSCME contract. The rotating schedule includes weekends and holidays. Shift differential may apply based on applicable contract provisions.
