The Desk Receptionist (DR) is a residence hall staff member employed by the Department of Residential Life and the Department of Public Safety. Provide safety and security to the residence hall. Serve as resource for residents.



  • Part-time position: Fridays & Saturdays 11pm-7am.
  • 10-month position, including any holidays during which the residence hall front desks are open. This position has the potential for summer employment as well.
  • This is an hourly-paid position, beginning at $15.00 plus night differential pay.


Position Responsibilities

This position helps maintain a safe, respectful, and welcoming residence hall community within a Catholic, Jesuit liberal arts institution. Responsibilities include monitoring building access, assisting with guest check-ins and bag checks, enforcing rules regarding alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and other prohibited substances, and responding appropriately to safety, security, fire, weather, and medical emergencies. The role also requires staying alert, responding to radio and phone calls, protecting confidential student information, and following all Public Safety and Residential Life procedures.

The position also focuses on providing friendly and respectful service to residents and guests. This includes addressing residents' needs, welcoming people entering and leaving the building, respecting student privacy and FERPA rights, maintaining accurate records and reports, submitting timecards on time, and keeping the front desk clean and organized. Employees must attend required trainings and meetings and complete other assigned duties.

Finally, the position supports an inclusive community where everyone feels respected and welcome. Employees should encourage civil discussion, empathy, and appreciation of differences while treating residents fairly regardless of their background, race, religion, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender, age, abilities, veteran status, or other aspects of their identity.

Requirements



  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Customer Service or related experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills needed.
