The ETI Design Project Responsible is responsible for planning, performing, and executing Electrical Thermal Incident (ETI) assessments for new vehicles, new top hats, new engines, Mid-Cycle Actions (MCA), and serial-life modifications.
The role ensures ETI assessments are completed in accordance with established processes and program milestones. ETI assessments evaluate the risk of thermal incidents associated with electrical and electronic components, wiring harnesses, and their installation within the vehicle. The position works cross-functionally with engineering, packaging, validation, manufacturing, quality, and other technical teams throughout the vehicle lifecycle to identify potential risks, support mitigation activities, and document assessment results.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Development
- Plan and execute ETI assessments in support of assigned vehicle programs and milestones.
- Ensure ETI validation of electrical and electronic components in collaboration with appropriate technical teams.
- Support digital analysis of wiring-harness routing to verify design best practices and identify potential ETI risks.
- Collaborate with Packaging, Routing Quality Design & Validation, wiring-harness DREs, and other engineering stakeholders.
- Identify and escalate issues that may prevent achievement of program or ETI requirements.
- Prepare and release ETI assessment reports at required program milestones.
Industrialization & Production
- Conduct physical ETI checks at production facilities to confirm results of digital analyses, including participation in Gemba Walks.
- Contribute to safety assessments for identified deviations or potential risks.
- Escalate blocking issues requiring resolution or additional technical support.
- Prepare and release ETI assessment reports throughout the industrialization process.
Serial-Life Support
- Support Plant Quality Engineers and Routing Quality Design & Validation teams with risk assessments for serial-life issues.
- Participate in recurring Gemba Walks at assigned manufacturing facilities.
- Provide ETI expertise to support the evaluation and resolution of production-related concerns.
Process Improvement & Technical Support
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the ETI assessment process and applicable design standards through lessons learned.
- Support ETI field investigations and laboratory analyses.
- Promote consistent application of ETI assessment methodologies and technical standards.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent university degree in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronics Engineering
- Automotive Engineering
- Related technical discipline
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in thermal incidents associated with electrical and electronic components and wiring harnesses in vehicles
- Ability to travel for short-duration assignments within North America.
- English-language proficiency is required.
Technical Knowledge & Skills:
- Knowledge of AC/DC electrical principles.
- Understanding of automotive electrical architectures.
- Knowledge of wiring-harness design.
- Understanding of BEV and HEV systems.
