Bring your EMS experience into a role where relationships, education, and communication can strengthen the continuum of emergency care across Central Virginia. The EMS Liaisons & Outreach Coordinator serves as an important connection between UVA Health and the EMS agencies that care for patients before they reach the hospital. Based in the Emergency Department, this role is ideal for an experienced paramedic who understands EMS operations and wants to use that expertise to build stronger partnerships, support prehospital providers, and help bridge the transition from field care to hospital care. The Role This is a highly visible, relationship-focused position for someone who is comfortable working independently while collaborating across the hospital and regional EMS community. You will maintain regular contact with EMS agencies, fire departments, and transport services while serving as a trusted hospital resource for questions, concerns, education, and feedback. Your work will extend beyond the walls of the Emergency Department. You will participate in EMS meetings and regional advisory groups, provide education to prehospital clinicians, support outreach efforts, and help ensure EMS partners have the information they need to effectively navigate UVA Health services. In this role, you will: * Serve as a key point of contact between UVA Health and local and regional EMS partners, helping address concerns, questions, and opportunities for collaboration. * Maintain relationships with EMS agencies, fire departments, transport services, operational leaders, and other prehospital stakeholders. * Attend EMS meetings, councils, and regional advisory committees to maintain strong connections across the EMS community. * Coordinate communication regarding hospital capabilities, specialty services, and operational information such as diversion status. * Develop and deliver continuing education programs for EMS providers, supporting clinical knowledge and professional development. * Communicate appropriate patient outcomes and follow-up information to EMS agencies to help strengthen learning and continuity across the patient-care journey. * Collaborate on community outreach, injury prevention, and other initiatives connecting UVA Health with the communities and agencies it serves. * Identify concerns and solve problems collaboratively, helping strengthen the working relationship between hospital and prehospital teams. The strongest candidates will bring at least five years of EMS experience, familiarity with the local EMS environment, and the ability to establish credibility with both frontline clinicians and operational leaders. Paramedic certification is expected, with instructor certifications and previous instructor or operational officer experience preferred. This position is based in the Emergency Department and offers flexible hours, making adaptability, initiative, and strong independent judgment especially important. Why UVA Health UVA Health University Medical Center provides a distinctive environment for an EMS professional ready to deepen their impact. The Emergency Department includes a 70-bed Level I Trauma Center serving adult and pediatric emergencies, while UVA Health receives patients from EMS agencies throughout Central Virginia and multiple regional EMS council areas. Here, the EMS-hospital relationship is more than an operational handoff. It is an opportunity to strengthen communication, education, clinical learning, and collaboration across the emergency-care continuum. * Join a nationally recognized academic health system where patient care, education, research, and community engagement are central to the mission. * Work within an emergency and trauma environment equipped to care for patients across the full spectrum of acuity, from routine emergencies to highly complex and critically injured patients. * Become part of an organization with a strong commitment to lifelong clinical education, including continuing education, simulation, and advanced learning opportunities. * Help strengthen existing connections with EMS and emergency-response partners throughout the region. * Bring your operational EMS knowledge into a role with autonomy, flexible hours, and meaningful community-facing impact. * Use your experience in a different way while remaining closely connected to the EMS profession and the clinicians who deliver prehospital care. For an experienced paramedic who enjoys teaching, relationship-building, problem-solving, and representing EMS perspectives within a complex healthcare environment, this is an opportunity to influence emergency care well beyond a single patient encounter.
