About the Job

The Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Development (GCD) at the University of Minnesota (UMN) Medical School has an Assistant or Associate Professor tenure-track, 12-month appointment opening in Genomics. The focus of this search is on life sciences research that will advance our understanding of genome function and its connection to human health and disease.

Successful candidates will develop an independent, NIH-funded research program that will expand the Department's strength in genomics. We are especially interested in candidates who will develop or leverage cutting edge computational and/or functional genomics approaches. Example areas and questions include:

  • Genomic variation and its association with phenotypes
  • Epigenomics and gene expression regulation
  • Single-cell and/or spatial genomics
  • Functional annotation of the genome
  • Population and statistical genetics
  • Genome biology and evolution
  • Pangenomics
  • Integration and visualization for multi-omics
  • Integration of genomics with other data sources such as electronic health records

Successful applicants will complement UMN's existing research strengths, including our centers and institutes on Addiction, Aging and Metabolism, Cancer, Epigenetics, Heart Disease, Immunology, Infectious Diseases, and Translational Neuroscience.

Qualifications

Applicants at the Assistant Professor level are expected to have an outstanding track record of academic excellence with the drive to establish extramurally-funded research programs through independent and collaborative research. Applicants at the Associate Professor level are expected to have an established extramurally funded research program and a robust track record of publication and collaboration. All applicants are required to hold a Ph.D. or an M.D./Ph.D. degree.

About the Department

The Medical School's Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Development is a vibrant, multi-disciplinary department with outstanding faculty in genomics and genetics, cell biology, and developmental biology. GCD faculty span the Medical School and the College of Biological Sciences and have access to excellent core facilities, an outstanding graduate program, an interdisciplinary environment integrated with translational research, engineering and computational expertise, and life sciences research across scales from atoms to organisms. GCD is located in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, which consistently rank among the top places to live in the U.S. and are a hub for biotech and biopharmaceutical companies.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $90,000 - $180,000 based on rank depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
