Knox Lab - Junior Specialist

Department of Cell & Tissue Biology

UC San Francisco

The Knox Lab is seeking a Junior Specialist to join the group and contribute to new and ongoing research focused on dry eye disease and nerve-tissue interactions in the cornea. Using an autoimmune disease mouse as our model system, we study the cellular and molecular basis of dry eye and the mechanisms of chronic injury and cornea regeneration. The candidate will be expected to contribute to these research directions, by using techniques including mouse genetics, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, 3D imaging, bioinformatics, etc. An exception candidate will lead their own independent project, be familiar with the literature, develop new ideas, and participate in procurement of funds, where appropriate. Additionally, the Junior Specialist will be expected to assist with managing day-to-day operations, and perform general lab duties and be a positive lab citizen. Depending on performance and workload, mentorship of other trainees, and scientific writing will be available.

Required Qualifications:



  • Must have (or be in process of obtaining) a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience to be appointed at the Junior rank.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Willingness and ability to learn new methods and skills for changing research priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a research team.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate work tasks with others, and meet multiple deadlines.
