The position will be in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the University of California San Francisco. Our lab is based at Pride Hall on the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital Campus and works closely with the hospital's Clinical Laboratory. We primarily focus on identifying and quantifying endogenous and exogenous small molecules in biological specimens using novel diagnostic technologies, such as mass spectrometry and biolayer interferometry. We are involved in translational research studies aimed at the clinical evaluation of novel biomarkers or biomarker panels to diagnose, treat, and monitor disease. The methods we develop are used to investigate perturbations in metabolic pathways caused by disease and drug exposure. An important part of our work is translating results into information that can be used in clinical practice. We bridge laboratory research and clinical research through multidisciplinary collaboration and methodologies. Junior Specialist responsibilities may include preparing specimens for mass spectrometry analysis; performing tandem or high-resolution mass spectrometry testing; biolayer interferometry experiments; handling clinical research specimens and evaluating test performance of laboratory diagnostics. We seek an exceptional and enthusiastic candidate with an appropriate academic background and research experience to lead their independent project(s) and assume roles in collaborative projects across the spectrum of translational research. Mass spectrometry experience and associated data analysis are required. Specialists appointed at the Junior rank must possess a bachelor's degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience. Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master's degree or a bachelor's degree with three or more years of research experience. Candidates must meet the required qualifications at the time of appointment. Candidate's CV must state qualifications (or if pending) upon submission.
