The Department of Neurosurgery at University of Texas Dell Medical School, in conjunction with Ascension Texas, is seeking an accomplished leader for the role of Director of Functional Neurosurgery. We are seeking an individual with excellent clinical and leadership skills, a passion for education, and a demonstrated record of scholarly contributions. Research support is available for the appropriate individual, and there is an expectation that research related to one or more of the neurological conditions treated by this neurosurgeon be performed. The successful candidate will be qualified for appointment in the Department of Neurosurgery at Dell Medical School as an assistant or associate professor and will be committed to working within an active academic department to contribute to the mission and vision and adhere to the values of the School.

Responsibilities:



  • Lead and develop a comprehensive functional neurosurgery program at UT Dell Medical School and Ascension Texas that includes 2 focus hospitals in Central Austin - Dell Seton Medical Center (DSMC) and Seton Medical Center Austin (SMCA).
  • Lead and develop a robust multidisciplinary functional neurosurgery practice in partnership with members of the Departments of Neurology and Psychiatry.
  • Collaborate on evaluation and implementation of new functional neurosurgery technologies and resources
  • Review and maintain appropriate metrics and outcomes for functional neurosurgery based on national benchmarks
  • Participate in research programs in collaboration with clinical and translational research partners that leads to extramural funding and helps to advance the field
  • Train and mentor medical students, residents and fellows on clinical management, models of care, research and education in functional disorders
  • Work with the department chair, director of clinical operations and school and hospital leadership to assess the functional program needs and relevant faculty and staff recruitments

Qualifications

  • Medical Degree from an LCME accredited medical school.
  • Successful completion of training in an ACGME accredited neurosurgical residency.
  • Current board certification or tracking towards board certification by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
  • Successful completion of accredited functional neurosurgery fellowship or equivalent.
  • Meet applicable credentialing and privileging standards for neurosurgery.
  • Demonstrated experience of clinical teaching, evaluation, and communication skills.
  • Must be an innovative self-starter with a commitment to excellence.
  • Must possess tenacity, self-motivation and initiative necessary to drive the development of new and maintenance of established programs.
  • Must have a track record of being able to lead, direct, and influence a team and history of positive and productive teamwork.
  • Qualified for appointment as assistant or associate professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Dell Medical School, The University of Texas at Austin.


Preferred qualifications:



  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with neurologists, psychiatrists, psychologists, physical medicine and rehabilitation and other clinician specialists in a comprehensive functional program.
  • Experience delivering care through a multidisciplinary team and program.
