Controller

Position Summary:

A leading provider of essential home services in the Akron, OH area is currently seeking a Controller to serve as the leader of the finance and accounting function. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing various accounting and finance initiatives, including the monthly close process, financial statement preparation, payroll management, tax compliance, mid-month reporting on key profitability and KPI metrics, yearly audit procedures, and facilitation of accounting systems transitions/integration. The Controller will play a crucial role in promoting the company's vision and core values while ensuring alignment with the General Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

The Controller will be responsible for the following key duties:

  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including the monthly close checklist and full reporting package. Execute month-end and year-end close procedures, coordinating with the Parent Company's (PE backed) accounting team.
  • Manage the Company's general ledger, ensuring adherence to proper GAAP accounting policies, accrual processes, and associated policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with various functional groups and departments (service, dispatch, warehouse, customer service, purchasing) to assess the financial impact of current and future activities.
  • Detailed management of cash, including oversight of weekly/monthly cash flow forecasting.
  • Monitor and report weekly on key performance indicators, identifying and reporting business trends requiring review. Provide weekly updates to the General Manager on financial performance, with comprehensive financial statement reviews held monthly, quarterly, and annually.
  • Coordinate the development of the annual budget, quarterly forecasts, and capital plans.
  • Lead, manage, and support direct reports.
  • Oversee data systems/integration to ensure workflows meet the requirements of the finance department, GAAP, and/or the needs of operations.
  • Provide oversight for job costing, inventory management, and related audit control.
  • Review and reconcile account balances, overseeing billing, credit, and collections. Provide oversight and support for the payroll process.
  • Manage the Company's yearly financial audit and cultivate a working relationship with the auditor.
  • Assess current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing changes as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is required.
  • Intermediate FP&A experience.
  • Intermediate or expert proficiency in Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel (pivot tables, x/v-lookup, extensive reporting), is required.
  • Ability to develop accounting processes/procedures from the ground up.
  • Strong initiative, ownership, and attention to detail.
  • Advanced quantitative skills complemented by intellectual curiosity.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, ADP Payroll, or corresponding ERP Accounting systems preferred.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Controller or corresponding managerial accounting experience required.
  • CPA Preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Industry CRM experience preferred, i.e., Service Titan.
  • Residential home service industry experience (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or related technical trade operations environment) a plus.
