The University of Texas at Austin is seeking to hire a Electrical Engineer Project Manager III (PM3) holding a professional engineer license for the Infrastructure Team within the department of Planning, Design and Construction. PM will provide project management and leadership for infrastructure type major Capital Improvement Program (CIP, >= $10M TPC) and minor (< $10M TPC) projects at UT Austin for highly technical, mission critical, and sensitive project types. PDC is currently managing more than $2 billion in major projects in the design and construction phases, and this position is critical for the successful delivery of these projects.

Purpose

Provide professional project management of engineering, design and construction and utility projects for university facilities and infrastructure. Projects may include new construction, fit-out of shell spaces, renovation of existing spaces and systems, and refurbishment of existing buildings and campus infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates leadership, management, organization and communication skills. Provide excellent customer service to meet client needs and university Design & Construction Standards.
  • Responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing electrical construction and renovation projects. Provide professional direction for project teams to achieve common goals and successful projects. Mentor and guide PM staff with less experience, to support successful project delivery at all levels of the organization.
  • Provide consistent, timely and reliable communication between all project stakeholders, including clients, professional service providers, university personnel and contractors to ensure that projects are thoroughly documented and understood. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Assist with development of project scope, budget and schedule for multiple projects or tasks simultaneously. Tracks project budgets and schedules, and develops reports as directed. Keep facilities database software (currently FAMIS) up to date reflecting current project information.
  • Procure services of Professional Service Providers (PSPs) and Construction teams and help administer agreements. Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Stay current with legislation, building codes, building materials and methods, and university design and construction standards.
  • Learn and maintain awareness of project safety requirements, following OSHA standards.
  • Participate on committees, task forces, etc. to improve the departmental mission of excellent customer service and project delivery.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Professional Engineer license (PE) in the State of Texas, or licensure in another state and eligible for reciprocity with the State of Texas
  • 5 or more years' experience providing project management of engineering design and construction activities for renovations and new construction of institutional or commercial facilities.
  • Working knowledge of contract documents (plans, specifications).
  • Experience obtaining construction bids and negotiating construction contracts.
  • Working knowledge of life safety and building codes including, NFPA 101, IBC, ASHRAE, IECC, Texas Accessibility Standards, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, among others.
  • Experience using Excel, Microsoft Word, and scheduling software such as MS Project.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 10 years of experieence in the engineering field.
  • Experience managing design and construction for projects in a higher education setting as the owner's representative.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Energy Manager(CEM) , or other similar demonstration of formal project management training.
Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$115,000 + depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
