Job Summary

Treatment planning is an essential section within the Division of Medical Physics in the Department of Radiation Oncology. Its mandate is to perform all the activities required (planning, training, documenting, etc.) to implement prescribed isodose distributions used in the treatment of cancer patients.

Under the technological supervision of the Chief Dosimetrist, the direct supervision of the Physics Manager, and professional direction of the Clinical Faculty, the Sr. Dosimetrist designs external beam treatment plans for patient treatments by using a treatment planning computer, computer support system, and computer quality improvement verifications and others with quarterly rotations to all radiation oncology sites (Mt Zion, Parnassus and Mission Bay (2014). The Sr. Dosimetrist accepts assignments by the Chief Dosimetrist, plans and carries out the successive steps and handles problems and deviations in the work assignment in accordance with instructions, policies, previous training, and/or accepted published practices. Completed work is evaluated for technical soundness, appropriateness and conformance to policy and requirements. The Chief Dosimetrist verifies treatment plans and a Qualified Physicists completes a final physics check.

Department Description

The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center in an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NCI-Designation recognizes the scientific leadership, resources, and the depth and breadth of the research in basic, clinical and population science. As a Comprehensive Cancer Center, we demonstrate the added depth and breadth of research as well as substantial transdisciplinary research that bridges these scientific areas. The Department of Radiation Oncology encompasses three sites and provides comprehensive radiation treatment using the best in class modalities. Our interdisciplinary team of nurses, therapists, dosimetrists, physics and physician treat 250 patients daily at three hospital sites.

Required Qualifications

• BS in applied science
• Five years work experience as a dosimetrist reflecting technological skills reflecting the knowledge of patient treatments on a linear accelerator with supporting computerized record and verify systems are required
• CMD board eligible

Preferred Qualifications

• Satisfactory completion of formal dosimetry training
• CMD Board eligible

License/Certification

• CMD board eligible
