Associate Professor of Counselor Education and Graduate Program Director for the Master of Counselor Education Program

Widener University is currently seeking a 10-month non-tenure track Associate Professor of Counselor Education and Graduate Program Director for the Master of Counselor Education Program. This role reports to the Director of the Center for Social Work education.

The candidate is required to have graduated with a master degree in Counselor Education or related field from an accredited college or university but a person graduated with a doctoral degree, in Counselor Education or related field from an accredited college or university is preferred. Responsibilities include teaching courses on campus and online, serving as the graduate program director, contributing to scholarship through presentations and/or publications, maintaining currency in the academic discipline through continuing study, professional development, and/or participation in professional activities, and pursuing service and leadership opportunities within the Program, Center, College, University and profession.

Duties and Responsibilities: (include but are not limited to)

Essential Duties:



  • Serve as graduate program director including collaboration with Graduate Admissions and Enrollment regarding recruitment and admission of students in the Master of Counselor Education Program. Coordinate program during summer months on an overload basis.


Teaching



  • Manage scheduling and course delivery and provide leadership in course development and implementation (i.e., syllabi, learning objectives, assignments and rubrics, examinations, other course materials, and Canvas course site management).
  • Demonstrate effectiveness in teaching and student assessment; use faculty development opportunities and teacher effectiveness tools to improve teaching.
  • Demonstrate competency in knowledge and skills in teaching both in class and online as evidenced by supervisor, peer, and student evaluations.
  • Serve as academic advisor and/or mentor for students and/or student organizations.
  • Maintain regular office hours; guide or support students who reach out for assistance; identify students who are struggling and need extra attention or support to be successful (use email, phone or other means of communication).
  • Serve as mentor to adjunct faculty.


Service

  • Participate in professional activities and service to the University, College, Center, and the profession.
  • Attend all university academic events as required by the faculty handbook.
  • Attend all University, College, Center, and Program faculty meetings.
  • Participate in faculty governance committees


Scholarship/Practice



  • Engage in scholarly/clinical work related to area of interest on a regular basis and as required by PTAF guidelines of the Center/College for the award of tenure.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (education/training and experience required):

Required:



  • Master degree in Counselor Education or related field from an accredited college or university required
  • Doctoral degree in Counselor Education or related field from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Hold a LPC, licensed professional counselor.
  • Experience, qualifications and record of teaching excellence and scholarship for faculty appointment at the Associate Professor NTT rank
  • Experience in higher education in recruitment and retention of students


Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:



  • May be required to be available to students via phone, email or other means of communication over nights and weekends.
