POSITION TITLE: Youth Ministry Coordinator

STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Corps Officer

MISSION STATEMENT:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must:



  1. Possess a positive Christian experience and be willing and able to share it.
  2. Be at least 21 years of age with the ability to drive a 15 passenger bus.
  3. Follow child protection policies of The Salvation Army.
  4. Have an understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army's mission, philosophy, programs, and practices.
  5. Have obtained H.S. Diploma or GED. Some college and/or degree preferred. On the job experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
  6. Have experience teaching or working with children in an educational or ministerial environment.
  7. Have the ability to plan and schedule events, programs, and activities.
  8. Have the ability to plan, direct, and evaluate the work of subordinates.
  9. Have the ability to work independently or with other staff members.
  10. Be able to keep calm in demanding situations.
  11. Obtain First Aid and CPR Certification or be willing to acquire both upon acceptance of job offer.
  12. Have experience working with volunteers and employees in both team and supervisory roles.
  13. Demonstrate leadership ability.
  14. Have the ability to work under the restrictions of a monthly budget.
  15. Have the ability to plan and execute events.
  16. Bonus if you are a musician or have a music background.
  17. Bilingual a plus.
  18. Weekly work schedule is based on programming.



SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Youth Ministry Coordinator will be responsible for the active discipleship of youth in the corps through Sunday School, weekly youth programming, and other Salvation Army events. They will also be responsible for outreach to youth in the community through the after-school program, summer day camp, and other various outreach opportunities. They will work with the Corps Officer and other ministry staff to ensure that we as a ministry team are meeting the needs of all our church members, as well as reaching out to the community. This position, alongside the Corps Officer, will be responsible for recruiting, training, and equipping volunteers to support the Youth Ministries of the Yakima Corps.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative Duties:



  1. Recruit and train volunteers for youth programming.
  2. Keep open communication with Corps Officer regarding Youth Ministry Coordinator schedule, programs, trainings, and events.
  3. Keep and report statistics for each individual children's program.
  4. Coordinate any driver or vehicle needs with the Corps Officer.
  5. Collect tuition for after school program and summer day camp.
  6. Maintain classrooms and bulletin boards, making sure areas are clean each day. Report any damages or issues to the Corps Officers as soon as possible.
  7. Submit payroll changes or issues to Corps Officers.



Program Development:



  1. With support of the Program Coordinator, plan activities, curriculum, calendar, and individual learning plans for the After School Program.
  2. Secure needed supplies through current budget. List of needs due by Thursday each week.
  3. Develop and distribute program information and public relations materials.
  4. Plan evangelistic outreach directed specifically toward youth and children.
  5. Coordinate pastoral care for children ensuring that regular contact is made.
  6. Responsible to plan, implement, and execute programs including but not limited to: Troops, Teen Night, VBS, Day Camp, Bible Studies, Corps Cadets, Sunday school, Junior Soldiers, etc.
  7. Plan and implementation quarterly youth events with assistance from Corps Officer.
  8. Oversee weekly Youth Programs.
  9. Other program related tasks as needed or required by the Corps Officer.



Summer Day Camp:



  1. Oversee registration.
  2. Plan, prepare, and execute all activities and field trips.
  3. Supervise day camp staff, including assigning duties, scheduling breaks, weekly staff schedules, and orientation.
  4. Interview and assist in selection of Summer Day Camp staff.
  5. Promote Summer Day Camp via digital fliers and mailings.
  6. Arrange all PR with school district for Summer Day Camp (and other events throughout the year)



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  1. Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  2. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
  3. Ability to use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  4. Ability to operate telephone.
  5. Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer.
  6. Ability to lift 20 lbs.
  7. Ability to access and produce information from a computer.
  8. Ability to understand written information.
  9. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Must be 21 yrs of age or older.

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance are offered.

Life and Voluntary Options. An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.

Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months' service time.

Paid Vacation:



  • Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
  • Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
  • Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months' service time.


Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
