POSITION TITLE: Fitness Attendant

DEPARTMENT: Kroc Center Hawaii - Health & Wellness

SUPERVISOR: Health & Wellness Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

CLASSIFICATION: Part Time, On Call, Hourly Pay Range $14.00 - $15.00

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Fitness Attendant is an entry level position and is responsible for monitoring and cleaning all areas within the Health and Wellness facility and must maintain positive and friendly customer relations. The person will observe all activity within assigned areas offering high quality assistance to guests and visitors.

The Fitness Attendant will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  1. High school graduate or GED.
  2. Six months to one year's experience within the fitness industry (either recreational or employment) which include knowledge of machine weights, free weights and cardio equipment.
  3. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  4. Current CPR and First Aid certification (may be acquired after employment).


Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  1. Develop and maintain professional relationships with members and guests by providing personal attention to all participants through a proactive, welcoming approach. Learn and uses member's name on a consistent basis.
  2. Introduce members to each other. Perform any service related making sure that they are having an experience that exceeds their expectations. Know names and take an interest in their lives; helping them to achieve their weight-loss/fitness goals.
  3. Enforce Health and Wellness Center rules and resolve dispute between members.
  4. Monitor and provide instruction on the safe and effective usage of cardio and strength training equipment. Educate members with various levels of experience, including novice users, in regards to rules and safe utilization of the machines.
  5. Provide a safe physical environment by sorting/racking equipment and stripping machines that are not in use, and cleaning the floor of magazines/newspaper, trash and /or other debris.
  6. Communicate all fitness protocols and procedures to members and guests. Provide information and answer questions about available Health and Wellness programs.
  7. Respond to and report accidents and incidents to Health & Wellness Director using required documentation procedures.
  8. Attend staff meetings and trainings and maintain current certifications.
  9. Maintain cleanliness of facility by cleaning equipment and training areas, vacuuming, dusting, and sweeping. Report all equipment operational issues on the Maintenance Log as soon as they are noticed.
  10. Document maintenance needs and submit to Health & Wellness Director.
  11. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  12. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
  13. Maintain regular and punctual work attendance.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Excellent physical condition and capable of meeting the demands of the position.

The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 40 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:

The position requires the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The position also requires the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances and follow directions thoroughly.

The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires communication via the latest technologies.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the environment is occasionally loud. Extended workdays are a frequent occurrence, as are weekends and holidays as needed to support the business.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES:

Current CPR and AED certificates may be acquired after employment.

The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid driver's license and insured transportation.

CLEARANCES:

The candidate chosen for this position will be required to pass a criminal history information check. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude employment. The circumstances involved in the conviction(s) will be considered.
