Seasonal Description
The School District of Beloit has an opening for the Fall Play/Spring Musical at Beloit Memorial High School.
The School District of Beloit is committed to preparing students who are college and career ready, empowered with effective communication, critical thinking, and life skills, which enable them to be productive global citizens. We are located on the southern Wisconsin state line in Rock county approximately 50 miles from Madison, 70 miles from Milwaukee, and 90 miles from Chicago. We invite you to explore the career opportunities at the School District of Beloit. We are a diverse and dynamic district serving over 5,000 students with six (6) elementary (4K-5) schools, two (2) middle schools (6 - 8), one (1) traditional high school (9-12) under the Ford NGL academy model, and one (1) alternative high school. Our schools are staffed by highly qualified, talented employees. Each building is supported by a Literacy Instructional Coach and a STEAM Coach. All schools receive support from instructional content specialists and student services staff. We have programs for every child: advanced learning, virtual/online classes, early childhood, all-day 4K, dual-language immersion, an advanced technical training center, a state-recognized intervention model and Ignite Beloit 1:1 iPad Learning initiative. Our mission, values, and goals support the academic success of our students. Our dedicated and talented teachers, administration, and staff reinforce and encourage high academic expectations, quality instructional practices, viable curriculum, student engagement, and an emphasis on 21st Century Learning that highlights critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. Beloit was forged in fire and heavy industrial manufacturing, but we survived the great recession with a renewed spirit. We celebrate a proud legacy of strength, beauty, and diversity. Located in southern Wisconsin and bordering northern Illinois, Beloit's best assets include a beautiful riverfront; charming downtown full of shops, hotels and restaurants; the internationally renowned Beloit College; the Beloit International Film Festival; miles of hiking and bike trails; interesting museums; and, of course, the School District of Beloit. This town of 37,000 is also the headquarters for several national and international companies including Hendricks Commercial Properties, ABC Supply, Kerry Americas, Rakuten, and PlayMonster. Qualifications
We are looking for candidates with professional leadership skills along with knowledge and experience in theatre costumer/productions. The ideal candidate for this position should have experience in costume designing musical and play productions, managing a costume shop (including working with and instructing others), and be highly organized. A production resume and design portfolio should be available upon request and/or brought to the interview. The applicant must have the ability to work cooperatively with administrators, parents and the community.
Additional information and expectations: Substantial costume storage available at the high school, mostly contemporary, but many pieces have been adapted for any period. Shoe room is organized by size. Large pattern collection, organized by decade. The costumer will be responsible for maintaining this space and the costume stock therein. It is expected that the costumer organizes parents and other volunteers. Fittings with students can be done during rehearsal, 3:30-6:00 pm. The show will be discussed from all aspects: design, choreography, theme and tone, etc. with the Director and appropriate members of the production team. Costumes should work with set and choreography to support theme, vision, etc. Laundry facilities available at the theatre. Show laundry can be done before opening night and between weekends. All items should be returned to storage and put away after the run of the show. All costume pieces should be labeled so actors and wardrobe can keep track of items. First dress is the Monday before opening. All items should be wearable, if not finished, for this rehearsal. The Director may schedule a dress parade before tech to make sure designs flow together and to help students understand their costumes. Candidate Requirements
