POSITION SUMMARY
Gates has an immediate opening for a VP, Product Development and Engineering, leading product development and engineering teams in support of Gates' global product life cycles and NPIs. This key leadership position is responsible for the creation and development of both global and regional roadmaps to enable consistent and targeted constructions, materials, and procedures. The role extends across multiple product lines, including hoses, belts, couplings and pulleys. This position is both strategic and tactical, with the select individual driving profitable growth with creative and value-add solutions that leverage knowledge of end markets, the competitive landscape, and customer needs to optimize Gates' product portfolio. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develops and implements product development roadmaps for belts, hoses, couplings, and pulleys. Regularly reports on the status and progress of the teams and projects. Identifies risks and gaps to projects and mitigations to ensure successful and timely launches.
  • Provides an understanding of industry and customer trends to define multi-year roadmaps that anticipate development requirements and product functionality. Stays aware of progress in materials and process development groups to promote alignment.
  • Provides problem solving support, whether technical or coordination with other groups, to enable successful outcomes to development or production challenges. Manages changes to ensure that they are compliant with company and industry requirements. Maintains product conformance to industrial specifications and customer requirements.
  • Enables and promotes an inclusive culture of learning and development, with a proactive approach to talent management and career advancement.
  • Aligns and maintains alignment of global product lines to common standards. Ensures that regional products are aligned to expectations of the specific regions.
  • Provides a source of technical and roadmap communication to internal and external groups and stakeholders to the product lines.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
5-7 product group lead direct reports, total team size between 65-70.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS Degree or Higher, preferably in an Engineering discipline, including Master's in Mechanical Engineering, and Engineering/Materials management.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in engineering resource/multi-project management with progressive leadership responsibility.
  • Minimum of 5 years product development experience, with strong preference for experience with materials including one or some combination of the following: rubber, rubber composites, ceramics, plastics, chemicals/chemical compounds.
  • Knowledge of and/or demonstrated ability to gain foundational knowledge of the full range of Gates' product families in a relatively short amount of time.
  • Ability to provide concurrent oversight to multiple resources and projects in multiple regions; prior global responsibility strongly desirable.
  • Understanding or ability to develop understanding of polymer, plastic, metal materials and material systems.
  • Ability to provide clear communication, articulate complicated, complex concepts and plans to diverse audiences at all levels of the organization.

  • Strong organizational skills, with ability to multitask/handle multiple activities concurrently in a global matrix organizational structure.
  • Demonstrated problem solving/troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing concepts, including product design, planning, production processes.
  • Knowledge of financial concepts, including product costing and operations finance, including OpEx.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written (English), with experience presenting project information across all levels of an organization.
  • Results oriented, sense of urgency in seeking creative solutions to business problems.
  • Proven ability to lead cross functional and multicultural teams across a global manufacturing geography.
  • Proficient project management and engineering related skills including but not limited to:
  • Desktop Publishing
  • Project Management Programs (Microsoft Project)
  • Time Management/Resource Planning
  • Follow up assessments
  • Collaborative, team player, provides support to team members and promotes knowledge sharing to facilitate cross training across all functions. Adept at building relationships, fostering trust.
  • Takes initiative, comfortable operating independently; proactive in anticipating the needs of internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high pressure situations, manage conflict and prioritize workloads.
  • Strong strategic orientation, with demonstrated ability to grasp the big picture, develop strategic plans, while not losing sight of the details necessary for good execution.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Regular domestic and international travel is required.
PAY & BENEFITS
For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in Colorado, Gates is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. This compensation range is specific to the State of Colorado and takes into account various factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
  • Full-Time, salary range between $250,000 - $290,000 based on qualifications/experience
