Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Radiation Therapist II, is a valuable member of our team, who provides clinical services to our patient population. The incumbent will be a member of our radiation oncology clinical team. This person is responsible for administering daily treatment on Varian accelerators to patients using various treatment techniques along with simulating and scheduling patient for treatments. This person reports directly to the Assistant Director of Radiation Therapy. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.

Duties of a TH Radiation Therapist II in the Radiation Oncology Department may include the following but are not limited to:

Treatment Responsibilities:



  • Deliver prescribed therapeutic doses of radiation in accordance with physician orders.
  • Correctly prepare, operate and monitor radiotherapy equipment and accessories.
  • Interpret portal vision films and on board imaging.
  • Prepare immobilization devices and bolus material.
  • Assist in clinical instruction of students.



Scheduling:



  • Perform daily review of all new patient and cone down data in the record and verify system.
  • Arrange daily appointments for treatments and simulations.



Qualifications

Required: Graduate of an approved program in Radiation Therapy, NYS license or Temp license in radiation therapy, Member of ASRT and ARRT.

Preferred: Experience with Varian Accelerators, CT simulations and ARIA record and verify system. Experience performing various treatments to include SBRT, IMRT, HDR and SRS. Minimum 2 year experience.

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
