The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Musculoskeletal and Sports Research Program (MSRP) at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, a nationally recognized center of excellence in patient care, education, and research, is currently recruiting a post-doctoral research scientist. Advertised position seeks applications from candidates with interest in genetic basis of musculoskeletal conditions. This position requires a Ph.D. degree. Candidates with a degree or experience in genetics or genetic epidemiology are preferred. Candidate with research training in analysis of human diseases with bioinformatics skills will be preferred. Potential candidate will perform genomewide association studies in translational genetics research program with an aim to make discoveries to improve patient care, resident, fellow, and medical student education, and scholarly activities that advance clinical and translational medicine. This is a unique opportunity for a post-doctorate fellow or faculty to join a team of expert clinicians. We have an established infrastructure and access to large datasets for GWAS studies. There is also biorepository infrastructure for tissues such as tendon, bone, cartilage, and muscle. This position will work with a large multi-center study on the genetic epidemiology of rotator cuff tears called cuffGEN. This large study will collect patient outcomes and saliva samples to determine the genetic variants associated with rotator cuff tendon disorders. The candidate will also work on other studies and eventually be expected to apply for independent extramural funding. The laboratory has a track record of extramural funding.
