Division of Research, Innovation & Impact

NextGen Precision Health

Job Description

The Division of Research, Innovation & Impact, NextGen Precision Health is currently looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow.

This postdoctoral position is intended for STEM PhDs who are looking to use their training in a non-faculty career path that remains closely connected to academic research. Research Development (RD) is a fast-growing field that supports traditional laboratory research, with work that includes grant proposal development, research team building, and infrastructure building. The intention of this postdoctoral experience is to equip a person with the fundamental skills needed to establish and run a unit-level RD office at a research university. This position is intended to be 1 year, with a potential for a 1-year renewal.

This position will primarily focus on scientific editing and will lead the trainee to develop an advanced grantsmanship skillset by critically evaluating grant proposals and navigating the proposal development process. Additionally, the position will select rotations in the RD field (project management, workshop development, etc.) to develop a broad understanding of RD career paths, while developing a personal working style that contributes to a productive research support team.

Strong writing and communication skills are critical for success in this position. If you are someone who spent your PhD wishing that you could spend more time writing, this postdoctoral role is likely a good fit.

The selected candidate will work with a NextGen Precision Health Research Development Lead to critically evaluate grant proposals and make editorial suggestions related to narrative flow, readability, scientific writing conventions, sponsor compliance, persuasive impact, and other grant writing concerns. After an initial training period, the postdoctoral position will independently provide proposal development support to faculty investigators, beginning with scientific editing and gradually taking on more complex tasks, including interdisciplinary team building and project management.

Hours: Monday-Friday; 8 am to 5 pm

Qualifications

The qualified candidate will have a M.D. or PhD degree by start of the appointment.

The Candidate will be evaluated on having their PhD in STEM Discipline
