Posting Summary |
A postdoctoral position is available in the microMechanics of Deformation (mMOD) research group in the field of computational materials science and mechanics of crystalline defects. A suitable candidate is expected to have a Ph.D. in the field of Materials Science and Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Physics/Civil Engineering or other related disciplines, and research experience with mechanics of materials, materials modeling, and high-performance computing.
The postdoctoral associate's time with be split between two projects in collaboration with a Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratory. The first project is focused on the mechanics of dislocation structures formed in heavily deformed metals. Discrete dislocation dynamics simulations performed by the postdoctoral associate will be combined with transmission electron microscopy analysis at the DOE laboratory. In the second project, molecular dynamics simulations will be used to study crack initiation in structural metals, focusing on the role of crystalline defect interactions. Mechanical testing will also be performed at the DOE laboratory as part of this project. The postdoctoral associate will be expected to publish in academic journals, attend and present at technical conferences, and participate in the broader research activities within the mMOD group. |
