Summary:

Oversee Imaging clinical practices, at various Virtua divisions, to assure the safe and effective delivery of radiation to achieve diagnostic or therapeutic result as prescribed in patient care.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assist in management of QA programs, inspection and accreditation programs to ensure the standards for JCAHO, ACR, OSHA, NJDEP, FDA/MQSA, and NRC are maintained. Comprehensive and analytical reviews of QC/QA/QI data using standard accepted practices.
  • Responsible for implementing theassigned site Quality Assurance program with regard to all imaging modalities including radiography, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, ultrasound and nuclear medicine.
  • Performance of testing and surveys to comply with NJDEP, ACR, CMD/TJCand other accreditation program requirements. Re-test of CT equipment after major repair (tube, detector, HV tank replacements; software upgrades)
  • Manage patient dosimetry databases in CT and interventional radiology, and other modalities as requested, with respect to the surveillance, analysis and modification of patient radiation exposures to within clinically acceptable and efficient levels.

  • Provide radiation safety and image quality improvement education to professional, technical and other hospital staff as necessary.

  • Perform patient dose and risk assessment calculations, including fluoroscopic skin dose assessmentsas requested and communicate results effectively.

  • Troubleshooting of image quality issues in x-ray, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine

  • Participate in CT QA Committee and review of CT protocols with physicians using available dose data

  • Testing and Calibration of softcopy displays

  • Perform and report on Ultrasound QA/QC

  • Consultation with staff

  • Data analysis and reports (Rad Safety PQI, Leap Frog Reports, CT Dose benchmarking, etc.)

  • Utilize, administrate and maintain Radiology QC databases including Patient Dose Monitoring (Radimetrics), Display Softcopy calibration (QAWeb), Electronic QA Records (ZapIT!), ACR (TRIAD) and Lung Cancer Screening Reigstry (LungDIRECT)

  • Apply principals and initiatives of MedPhys 3.0 to the role of the Medical Physicist

  • Other radiation safety and imaging quality duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required:

Two years working under the direction of a physicist certified by the American Board of Radiology and becoming certified by the American Board of Radiology, or two years postdoctoral training with clinical experience in Radiological or Medical Physics.

Possesses knowledge of personal computers, computational skills and didactic skills. Familiarity with the above mentioned applications is desirable.

Required Education:

Master's or Ph.D Degree in Medical or Radiological Physics, or related physical science.

NJ State Qualified Medical Physicist certification in Diagnostic, CT, and Mammography. NJ State Radiation Surveyor for Medical Installations qualification.

Training/Certifications/Licensure:

American Board of Radiology Certification in Diagnostic Radiology (or completion within 1 year of hiring).
