Laboratory for Infectious Disease Research Job Description
The Laboratory for Infectious Disease Research (LIDR) at the University of Missouri is pleased to announce an opening for a Research Microbiologist. This is a technical support position for high containment and high priority pathogens. The position will conduct research supporting the mission of the LIDR, to conduct cutting edge research on high-consequence pathogens, including select agent research. Work is largely conducted with an aim to support the Animal Infection and Monitoring Services, Immunology Services, and investigators utilizing the LIDR facility. Position may cross-train to assist with coverage in other LIDR research operations. The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain clearance to work with select agents. Key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Conduct microbiological research (cloning, stock preparation, downstream analysis of experimental samples). Preparation of challenge materials upstream of infection studies, analysis of materials from infection studies. Work will include generation of cloning tools, genetic mutants, and reporter strains of high consequence bacterial and viral pathogens Data analysis (Statistical analysis of changes between groups- typically survival, changes in weight, pathogen burden, cytokine expression) Write reports and manuscripts. Discussion of experimental design, communication of results with supervisor and stakeholders Conduct and or/support animal research (design infection and/or treatment groups, infect and necropsy animals; perform downstream analysis of samples) Maintain workspace and other duties as assigned Shift
Monday- Friday 8 am- 5 pm Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary Preferred Qualifications
Microbiology, pathobiology, or related graduate degree Anticipated Hiring Range
