Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Professional or Project Professional Engineer (Sediment Remediation) to join our growing sediment & waterfront remediation practice. The successful candidate will ideally be based near our new practice in Syracuse, NY supporting our Hamilton, MA office. A hybrid or remote work schedule may be available at the Company's discretion. The position will apply engineering skills to projects involving investigations, design, and construction support the remediation of sediment sites throughout the United States while further developing the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Working with large, multidisciplinary teams to develop strategies to address complex problems;
  • Leading field programs and design tasks;
  • Planning and implementing fieldwork. Field work may include (i) the following types of sampling: surface sediment, sediment coring, passive porewater, surface water, soil, and groundwater; (ii) driller and contractor oversight; (iii) construction quality assurance and oversight; and (iv) remediation system O&M;
  • Evaluating chemical data and contaminant fate & transport;
  • Evaluating chemical source forensics;
  • Evaluating sediment, surface water, porewater, groundwater, and soil technologies and remedies, performing cost estimations, drafting design calculations, and planning for remedy implementation;
  • Analyzing data, including reviewing historical documents and preparing maps, tables, and figures;
  • Preparing technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals; and
  • Committing to Geosyntec's culture of health & safety.


Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, water resources, coastal or environmental engineering, or a related field of study. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred but not essential)
  • Professional registration (i.e., E.I.T. or P.E.) (preferred)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least 5 years (7+ preferred) of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Ability to digest and summarize technical language from white papers, reports or regulatory documents. (required)
  • Technical experience in engineering, geology, geotechnical, environmental, or related disciplines. (preferred)
  • Previous field experience, for example coastal vulnerability assessments, sediment sampling, porewater sampling, observation of well installation, soil sampling, groundwater sampling, and/or other field techniques. (preferred)
  • Experience of task or project management, including planning and implementing investigation and remediation projects, budgeting and budget management, adherence to schedule, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability (preferred)
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to environmental remediation. (valuable)
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Access, and related software; GIS. (preferred)
  • Field work and overnight travel may be required.
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified New York locations below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $89,605 / Maximum Salary: $134,465
