Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Senior or Principal Environmental Professional to support our growing environmental compliance and due diligence practice. This position can be located in any of our California offices to include Walnut Creek, Oakland, San Diego, Costa Mesa, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and Sacramento. This role will be responsible for managing people and projects, developing client relationships, ensuring technical excellence, and providing expertise on projects involving portfolio risk management, environmental, health and safety compliance, due diligence, and Brownfield redevelopment. This position is well-suited for a talented, highly experienced individual who is interested in being a leader and contributing to innovative and challenging projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of Geosyntec's culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you'd work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. You may also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with staff management and development, and mentoring tasks. Some of the key responsibilities may include:

    Managing, permitting, planning, compliance and environmental oversight of projects involving due diligence, including multi-media compliance reviews and ASTM-compliant Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments;
  • Managing multiple projects within the scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensuring quality standards on project deliverables;
  • Managing the overall delivery of projects including, project planning and controls, financial management, change management, risk management, and contract/subcontract management;
  • Effectively stewarding and building client relationships to repeat business; and
  • Developing business opportunities with new and existing clients and preparing associated proposals.


Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental or earth sciences; or environmental, civil, or chemical engineering; or a related field. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.), Professional Geologist (P.G.), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or similar. (preferred)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years (10+ years preferred) of experience in an environmental consulting environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Knowledge and experience with environmental regulations in the Western U.S., including California. (strongly preferred)
  • Significant experience with Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments. (strongly preferred)
  • Experience working on demanding, sophisticated, confidential and legally sensitive projects with the ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handle multiple project assignments, meet strict deadlines. (strongly preferred)
  • Knowledge and experience with health and safety regulations in the Western U.S., including California. (preferred)
  • An outstanding track record for client management and technical leadership. (preferred)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Field work and overnight travel may be required.

Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified California locations below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $120,265/year / Maximum Salary: $205,190/year (Los Angeles / Oakland / Walnut Creek)
  • Minimum Salary: $115,040/year / Maximum Salary: $196,275/year (Costa Mesa / Sacramento / San Diego / Santa Barbara)
