Job Summary

CASE Education Outreach is seeking part time student employees (2) who are interested in K-12 STEM education to facilitate after school programming at two schools in Miami Beach (Fienberg Fisher K-8 and Biscayne Beach Elementary). Desired student employees MUST be able to work during the times indicated below at these schools. Instructors will be tasked with facilitating pre-made 1-hour STEM and humanities-based content to students in grades 3rd - 5th and 6th - 8th. There will be a training period prior to instruction, but an ideal candidate should be familiar with classroom management and science content.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MUST beavailable Wednesday & Thursday afternoon from October 1, 2024 - December 15th 2024 (Fall Semester) and January 1st, 2024 -April 18, 2025 (Spring semester).
  • MUST have transportation to Miami Beach schools for work hours. Schools that instructors will be attending for instruction are: Fienberg Fisher K-8 and Biscayne Beach Elementary.
  • Demonstrate a desire and ability to learn and be taught about marine sciences, chemistry, physics and Astronomy and humanities content.
  • Be physically able and willing to maintain constant supervision of students during your time with them and to fulfill all responsibilities.
  • Be patient, energetic, fun loving and hardworking.
  • Be flexible and able to work well with others while maintaining open and effective communication.
  • Participate in pre-program staff training.
  • Become familiar with and implement FIU policies, procedures and philosophy.
  • Be on time for all shifts and meetings.
  • Assume full responsibility for and supervision of assigned students during each instruction, including reading through pertinent medical information.
  • Prepare and conduct daily science activities, including by not limited to dissections, experiments, art projects and games.
  • Provide appropriate supervision and instruction to each student in all settings and activities.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and safety of all areas used by the students.
  • Perform all other assigned duties, including greeting and communicating with each school's After School Instructors for drop-off and pick-up.

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
  • Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.
