Senior Bridge Engineer

Job Summary

Fishbeck is looking for a talented, ambitious Senior Bridge Engineer for employment in our Indianapolis, IN office. This position requires self-motivation, commitment to high-quality work performance, excellent planning, communication skills, and the ability to work with other staff in a project team environment. This position will provide the ideal candidate an opportunity to lead and mentor Fishbeck staff, work on exciting projects and grow with Fishbeck.

Primary Functions


  • Serve as the Project Manager for INDOT and LPA projects. As a Project Manager, this role will require liaison with clients and sub-consultants, managing schedules and project budgets. The person would assist preparation of Letters of Interest by developing a Technical Approach to transportation projects.
  • Work with experienced professional engineers on assignments related to bridge design, analysis, calculations, and plan preparation.
  • Design engineer on bridge or retaining wall-related projects, scoping, bridge inspections, and load rating services.
  • Assist in developing budgets, schedules, and reports. Demonstrate theoretical/practical civil engineering and specialized software knowledge.
  • Work closely with other Fishbeck technical staff from various disciplines to provide bridge design and other consulting engineering services, mainly for INDOT and local municipalities.



Minimum Physical Requirements

Occasionally exposed to light lifting, sitting, and walking. Will perform duties in the field and will be required to access and maneuver around project sites and use a computer. Capable of traveling to and from projects is required. Ability to use equipment for communication and documentation purposes. Visual acuity to perform responsibilities

Desired Education

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering

Desired Skills/Experience


  • PE license required.
  • 15 + years of experience in related roadway engineering positions working on INDOT or Local Agency projects.
  • AASHTO LRFD and LFD Bridge Design Specifications is required.
  • Microstation, AutoCAD/Civil 3D software, and other design modeling software.
  • Experience leading a design team and mentoring junior engineer
  • Thorough understanding of the Indiana Design Manual and project development process required by INDOT and other local public agencies.
