Position Summary
The mission of the Dean Students Office is to initiate learner-centered programs and services that foster a culture of care conducive to academic and personal development. The Assistant Dean will:

  • Provide programmatic support to a diverse range of students in need and crisis.
  • Overseeing and planning of events for the Homeless and Hungry Students initiative, which includes overseeing the Emergency Grant Fund and coordinating with the campus and community partners to support housing and food, insecure students.
  • Monitoring and responding to both the Dean of Students and Parent and Family Support email accounts within a reasonable time frame, professionally, and with accurate information regarding campus referrals.
  • Presenting interactive workshops and presentations focusing on a variety of topics including but not limited to: parent and family issues, students in distress, sexual misconduct, interpersonal violence, and Title IX. Title IX, as well as other state and federal mandates are external regulations that have transformed much of the student advocacy model.
  • Serve on the UNCG Family Weekend Initiative Committee, which is comprised of collaborating with campus partners from across UNC Greensboro to plan and execute Family Weekend events annually.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum requirements are a Master's Degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, or another appropriate field of graduate study and a minimum of two years of experience directly applicable to serving in an advocacy role with parent/family members in an institution of higher education or related field; a record of increasingly complex work responsibility; demonstrated understanding of parent/family issues; ability to achieve results in an environment of diversity and multiculturalism; and excellent interpersonal, communication, crisis response, and conflict management skills.
  • A candidate must have the ability to balance multiple obligations in an efficient and effective way, remain professional and compassionate during emotionally charged situations, and work as an integral member of a supportive team.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred qualifications include a candidate that has successfully served in an on-call crisis response capacity as well as an advocacy role for the campus community with a documented record of initiating proactive strategies that enhance retention and contribute to a welcoming and inclusive environment.
