Description

Senior Civil Engineer/Project Manager - Federal, Institutional, Public Works

Role Description: Huitt-Zollars, Inc has full-time opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer for our San Diego office with at least 10 years of engineering design experience with Federal, Institutional, Public Works clients. Must be a registered California Professional Engineer. Duties include but are not limited to, initial project research, plan production, management of plan production staff, plan processing, management of plan processing efforts, construction administration, and project close out efforts.

Duties:

  • Serve as a Lead Civil Engineer within the Federal practice with Institutional and Public Works experience in the development of design schematics, construction plans, specifications and estimates.
  • Conduct site visits and documents findings.
  • Prepare materials for presentations, GIS exhibits, and preliminary engineering reports.
  • Research jurisdictional requirements for appropriate incorporation into design and construction drawings.
  • Coordinate and manage production of EITs, designers and drafters.
  • Work directly with clients and direct staff with varied levels of experience and expertise.
  • Prepare proposal/contracts, project work plans, and schedules.
  • Prepare design and construction drawings using Autodesk products and information obtained from research activities.
  • Review shop drawings, perform field observations, and facilitate construction administration.
  • Manage project close-out efforts.
  • Support client management and marketing efforts for future work.
  • Train plan production staff and review work for quality assurance.
  • Consistently deliver proactive communication with clients. When client issues arise, address or expeditiously escalate to discipline lead.
  • Develop relationships with clients and teaming partners that allows for ease in communications and problem solving.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and may be responsible for a stated portion of office sales goal. Assists and/or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develops and/or executes project Win strategy.
  • Successfully and consistently functions as Lead Principal-in-Charge for their designated Practice Area in geographic market.
  • Competent, knowledgeable, service leader in the market(s) they service.
  • Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
  • Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensures proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects.
  • Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Leads successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client). Verifies client satisfaction routinely and shares feedback with team.
  • Proactively works with PM to strategize resolving issues that impact project performance. Reviews progress with PM at least monthly (including & completes vs. % spent) and that PM is adhering to weekly rhythm.
  • Successfully contributes to the overall profitability and financial performance on projects.
  • Oversees staff deliverables and production assigned to their projects to ensure client, legal, and company requirements are met.

Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Engineering.
  • Must be a Licensed Engineer (P.E.).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience.
  • Experience with Department of Defense criteria/systems to include Unified Facilities Criteria, SpecsIntact, ProjNet, Dr. Checks.
  • Experience with producing accurate and complete construction plans and reports.
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment and to manage multiple projects with limited supervision under the direction of a principal/officer of the company.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, communicating technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Solid leadership and management skills, self-motivated, and possess a strong ability to meet deadlines, satisfy clients, and solve complex problems.
  • Proficient in MicroStation, AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Proficient in Blue Beam, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.

Physical Requirements:

Annual Base Salary Range: $160,000-$170,000 depending on experience and qualifications of the selected candidate(s). The expected salary range for this position is displayed in accordance with the California Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The final agreed upon compensation is based on the success candidate's individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and consideration to participate in our discretionary annual bonus incentive program.
