In Bridgewater, we serve large, global clients in telecom and datacom industries in providing next generation optical modules to support the growing need for data and communications. We are developing optical connectivity solutions, optoelectronic solutions, Wavelength Selective Solutions assembly and fiber optic assemblies and arrays.

We are looking for a Principle Optical Engineer with a focus on holistic viewpoint of optical modules and systems. The Principle Optical Engineer is intended for an individual who is interested in supporting and leading programs devoted to the design, development, and use of free-space photonics. This person will apply their strong understanding of optical principles and extensive Zemax knowledge to lead the design and development of complex optical systems utilizing diffractive, collimating, and polarization optics. As a Principle member of the team and leading optical design, the responsibilities will include the design, development and optimization of cutting-edge optical systems with a focus on free-space optical technologies and spectral analysis techniques. This expertise will lead to the advancement of our products and services in the fields of optical communication.

What you will do in your role

* Acquire expert level understanding of Molex free space optical systems to allow innovation of new optical architecture
* Design and prototype optical architectures in Zemax
* Strong experimental skills and ability to setup and perform complex optical alignments
* Conduct thorough analysis of optical system requirements and specifications to ensure optical performance and reliability.
* Responsible for optical characterization and prototyping.
* Utilize advanced simulation tools and modeling techniques to evaluate and optimization the performance of free-space optical systems.
* Collaborate with multi-disciplinary design teams to integrate optical systems with other hardware, materials and electrical and mechanical components.
* Mentor other engineers and cross functional groups on implications of optical design
* Conduct experimental testing and validation of optical components, including spectral analysis and spectroscopy techniques.
* Develop new tools and techniques as needed to continuously improve our ability to model and understand key phenomena related to hardware, propagation in optical fibers (single mode and multimode), nonlinear optics, and other effects that operate with high peak and high optical power

The Experience You Will Bring:

* PhD degree in Engineering, Physics, Photonics or related technical field
* At least 10 years of industry experience with Optical Design
* Experienced in leading the development of free space optical systems
* Strong experience with optical simulation tools such as Zemax
* Strong experience with optical alignment and fiber coupling techniques
* Experience with optical system design for manufacturing, design and cost
