The University of Virginia (UVA) is a highly competitive Division I program committed to the academic and athletic experience of student-athletes. The Department of Athletics is seeking an Academic Mentor to support student-athletes in building essential skills to achieve academic success.
The Academic Mentor receives training from the Academic Affairs staff on the Cavalier Academic Support Services (CASS) framework for mentoring sessions, academic task development, and support strategies specific to course curriculum. They will meet with their assigned student(s) on a regular schedule (two to four times a week; however, this can vary) to develop weekly comprehensive academic tasks and enhance basic study skills techniques such as organization, reading, time management, note-taking, working with faculty, etc.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Academic Mentoring Program Hours:Sessions take place between 9am-10pm. Availability of at least four days a week with late afternoon and evening hours is preferred. This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year.
