The Jiang lab is seeking a lab technician to join their lab. We are located within the Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics Department at the University of Virginia. The duties of this position include general lab maintenance and direct participation in cutting edge research experiments. About the Jiang Lab: The broad interest of our laboratory is how gene expression and cell signaling are regulated by biomolecular condensates, how dysregulation of these mechanisms lead to diseases especially cancer. Moreover, we are developing novel strategies and molecules to target the specific condensates to combat disease. We have recently made exciting progresses in this direction, and are actively exploring their therapeutic potentials. Lab and Research Technician 2 employees provide increasingly complex technical support for projects and may engage in increasingly complex scientific experiments. May handle more sophisticated administrative and logistical tasks. Lab and Research Technician 2 employees operate under supervision with a degree of independence when following set protocols and procedures. Lab Specialist employees provide technical lab support by performing complex lab and research related tasks. They act as specialists on research methods and equipment functions specific to investigations. They have the authority to adapt methods and procedures to meet the needs of research. They are distinguished from Lab Technicians by the types and duration of assignments, as well as the skills and expertise necessary to serve as resources on non-routine problems. Lab Specialist employees perform daily activities without supervision; their longer-term assignments require greater oversight. Lab Specialist employees often train others on work processes and policies. LAB & RESEARCH TECHNICIAN II GENERAL DUTIES:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: LAB & RESEARCH TECHNICIAN II: Education: Associate's degree Experience:At least 2 years of lab experience which may include student experience.Bachelor's degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience. PREFERRED REQUIREMENT: Bachelor's (or equivalent) degree in natural science and at least 1 year's laboratory experience. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: LAB SPECIALIST: Education: Bachelor's degree. PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals.
