Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies (IHPS) invite applications for full-time faculty positions at any rank, in the In Residence and Adjunct faculty series. The UCSF Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics is the largest department of epidemiology in the University of California system and has a strong mission in education, research and clinical activities. The Department provides a supportive academic environment for original research, including opportunities for collaboration with researchers from other departments and UCSF Schools, as well as teaching and mentoring as part of our Master's Degree in Clinical Research, our doctoral program in Epidemiology and Translational Science, and other training programs. IHPS is a University of California Organized Research Unit dedicated to improving the health of all through evidence-informed policy. We are an interdisciplinary group of researchers who seek to improve health and transform healthcare in America by working across competing interests, collecting evidence, informing policy, and improving practice. Our researchers work across disciplines, championing improved health and better healthcare by generating, sharing, and advocating for new evidence with practitioners and policymakers who can put it to work. This work is facilitated by being based at a health sciences campus focused on graduate-level education, science, and community engagement. We are the administrative home of 12 faculty and our campus-wide network includes more than 20 additional core faculty and more than 200 affiliated faculty, trainees, and staff with backgrounds in anthropology, dentistry, economics, epidemiology, ethics, journalism, law, medicine, nursing, political science, public health, public policy, sociology, and other disciplines. Our areas of research span a wide range of policy- and practice-relevant topics. Faculty teach in the Institute's Master's Degree in Health Policy and Law program, in degree programs in other UCSF departments, and in the UCSF professional schools. We are particularly interested in quantitative and mixed-methods scholars who have established an extramurally-funded program of research focused on policy-relevant issues. Researchers whose expertise is well-aligned with our core faculty, including aging and long-term care, reproductive health, adolescent health, social and commercial determinants of health, and health workforce, are strongly encouraged to apply. We also encourage applications from scholars who are focused on topics related to health care financing and value-based care. Duties: The successful candidates will conduct health services and health policy research funded by extramural sources and be committed to teaching, mentoring, service, and policy translation. Qualifications: Doctorate in health services research, health economics, sociology, political science, anthropology, public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related field. Candidates must have a record of excellence and accomplishment appropriate for their experience conducting original research in health services, health policy, or a related field. Candidates also must have excellent teaching and service qualifications. There are opportunities for teaching in programs at IHPS and the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. The position will be administratively based at IHPS. Candidates must have current or recently awarded extramural funding for research in areas of interest with a proven track record of securing extramural and other self-generated funding to support their full salary. Such funding can be from NIH and AHRQ grants, including K and R series awards as well as from foundations, government contracts, collaborative agreements, and other funding sources, as appropriate given the candidate's academic rank. Preference will be given to candidates with areas of research compatible with current departmental programs and who have a demonstrated track record of independent research and associated research funding.
