This appointment may be extended or converted to career status based on the needs of the department. The Numerical Weather Prediction Scientist is responsible for supporting the computational workflows and timely completion of near-real time operational mesoscale weather prediction models. Processes large data sets including model input and output files, handles model pre-processing and post-processing, and the production of decision support tools in workflow software. Calculates model verification statistics to assess the prediction skill of the CW3E weather forecast system. Contributes to a variety of modeling projects, including CW3E near-real time forecasting system, high-resolution reanalysis, dynamical ensembles, high-resolution simulations of landfalling atmospheric rivers, and sensitivity studies involving model physics and dynamics. Supports the analysis and dissemination of experimental results via conference presentations, manuscripts, technical reports, and other publications. Contributes to and leads research assignments that are of moderate diversity in scope. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $85,400 - $156,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $40.90 - $75.10 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
