Jefferson College of Nursing (JCN) seeks a Director for the PhD in Nursing Program who qualifies for the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor of Nursing and shares a commitment to the mission, vision and values of Thomas Jefferson University and JCN.

The mission of the JCN PhD Program is to prepare scientists and scholars who make substantive contributions to nursing knowledge that improves the lives of diverse individuals, families, communities, and populations. The PhD Program Director is a 12-month full-time position and reports directly to the Associate Dean for Research and Global Engagement. The PhD Program Director is responsible for the leadership, operations and excellence of the PhD in Nursing Program at JCN.Courses are primarily delivered in a synchronous online format with at least one selected on-campus experience each year.

Specific responsibilities of the position include:

  • Leading the applicant review and selection process.
  • Monitoring formative and summative program evaluation metrics.
  • Mitigating shortfalls in program outcomes and benchmarks.
  • Fostering a culture of inclusivity and success for students and faculty.
  • Reviewing and recommending curricular revisions.
  • Collaborating with PhD faculty, Department Chairs and the Associate Dean for Research and Global Engagement on academic planning and faculty deployment.
  • Serving as teaching faculty and student advisor for PhD students.
  • Supporting qualifying examinations and dissertation research by PhD students in the roles of committee chair, committee member, and reader.
  • Responding to student concerns to resolve conflicts, appeals, and disputes/ grievances.
  • Preparing self-study reports for accrediting agencies and participating in site evaluations.
  • Assisting with faculty recruitment, development, evaluation, and mentoring.
  • Maintaining strong working relationships with nursing and research communities within and beyond Thomas Jefferson University.
  • Developing initiatives to integrate JCN faculty and students into research efforts at Thomas Jefferson University.
  • Participating in PhD student recruitment initiatives.
  • Engaging in scholarly activities including externally funded research, publications, presentations and grant writing.

The role is an administrative appointment for a full-time faculty member and carries a stipend to supplement the full-time faculty salary of the incumbent. Time served is at the discretion of the Dean.

Requirements

  • Hold a research focused doctoral degree in nursing or related field
  • Hold a minimum of a bachelors degree in nursing if terminal degree is not in nursing
  • Hold, or be eligible for, RN licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • Be eligible for rank of Associate or Full professor at Thomas Jefferson University
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience

Research

  • Have a body of scholarship and research consistent with expectations for the eligible rank
  • Have a past or present program of externally fundedresearch as a principal investigator (e.g., foundation, NIH, HRSA)
  • Have a demonstrated record of peer reviewed publications commensurate with rank
  • Have experience in developing successful research programs and research teams

Teaching Experience

  • Have experience in the development, teaching, advising, and administration ofgraduate (doctoral) level educational courses/programs
  • Have experience in online course delivery
  • Have experience serving as chair of PhD-level dissertation committees
