JOB SUMMARY:

Summit Fire National Consulting, LLC. - Senior Fire Protection Engineer

This position will be responsible for providing professional engineering services and direction of teams for projects involving building and facility fire protection planning, fire and building code consulting, insurance guidelines and standards interpretation, sprinkler/suppression system design, fire alarm system design, fire risk analysis, hazardous materials assessment, and performance-based fire engineering both nationally and internationally.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Engineering Consulting Functions:

  • Ability to present Company qualifications to new and existing customers, with the intent of preparing project scopes of work and proposals.
  • Ability to assess existing facilities and new project designs for preparing appropriate scope of services in proposals.
  • Attendance at regional conferences and industry events to promote the capabilities of the Company, including the preparation and presentation of selected papers and speeches at these conferences.
  • Participation in fire protection industry national and international organizations to represent Summit Fire National Consulting
  • Establish and cultivate relationships with authorities having jurisdiction, to assist our customers in presenting fire protection approaches to the authorities and achieving collaborative results.
  • Assisting in preparation and management of the budget for larger projects and providing input to our regional engineering manager for achieving planned gross margins and EBITDA.
  • Assist in fire protection engineering for the construction industry and design/build projects with other Summit Companies business units, including collaboration with the implementation of new technologies, addressing industry technical issues, analyses, calculations, plan reviews, etc.
  • Participation in business development by technically supporting new client engagements.
  • Develop and track proposals and follow up with prospective clients to contract execution.
  • Assist in mentoring Summit Fire National Consulting engineering staff and recruiting new staff within the fire protection industry.
  • Manage resources and staff on individual projects, including assistance with project set-up, staff resources, monitoring of profitability, billing, accounts receivable collections, etc.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Technical quality control and quality assurance of work performed by engineering staff on projects.
  • Design and evaluation of fire suppression, fire alarm, explosion suppression and smoke control systems, analysis of fire-rated construction, means of egress, and other life safety features in buildings and large facilities.
  • Building code consulting and fire code consulting for the construction industry.
  • Provide technical and practical guidance to the Summit Fire National Consulting team and our Clients on insurance industry practices and standards.
  • Classification and evaluation of hazardous materials.
  • Report writing and documentation.
  • On-site inspections, testing and observations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The qualifications listed below are representative of the elements required to perform the job successfully; however, in some cases, an equivalent combination of Education, Training, Certifications and Experience may meet the job qualifications.

Education, Training, Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, preferably Fire Protection Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering Technology, required.
  • Professional Engineering License in Fire Protection Engineering, required.
  • Current NFPA and SFPE memberships.

Experience, Knowledge, Skill Requirements:

  • 10+ years of Experience in building code consulting, design of fire suppression and alarm systems, and fire protection engineering analysis.
  • Prior experience in preparing and managing engineering projects and project teams with multiple engineering staff.
  • Experience in building code consulting, design of fire suppression and alarm systems, and fire protection engineering analysis.
  • Prior experience in preparing and managing project budgets of $100,000 USD and greater, and multi-phased projects.
  • Experience on NFPA technical or SFPE technical committees preferred.

Communication Skills:

  • Must have the ability to effectively read, write and communicate in English with employees, customers.

Systems and Software Skills:

  • Ability to operate a computer and use Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint), required.
  • Experience with computer hydraulic calculations, fire and smoke simulation, egress and pedestrian movement models or suppression system design programs, preferred
  • Bluebeam and AutoCAD or REVIT experience, preferred.

Other Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required.
  • Must be able to comply with the Companies Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, which may also include customer specific requirements based on contractual agreements.
  • Valid US passport with 1+ year until renewal date and ability to travel internationally for project site visits for multiple week durations, preferred.
