Purpose of Job This position is responsible for serving both internal and external customers by performing a variety of laboratory procedures in accordance with Ridgeview Medical Center philosophy, policies, and procedures and in accordance with all regulatory agencies. Focus areas include the primary laboratory department for which the Lead is responsible. Job Functions
Performs MT-MLS II job functions.
Assists in performance management for laboratory staff and is responsible for guiding, training, coaching, supporting and developing technical abilities.
Assists with interviewing and selection of new employees and projecting budgetary needs and maintaining current budget.
Delegates tasks for, and or, evaluates new products and instrumentation.
Directs troubleshooting and corrective action on instrumentation.
Responsible for quality control and proficiency testing protocols in their department.
Develops and maintains procedures for training, workflow efficiency and instrumentation and directs appropriate staff to assist.
Maintains all regulatory requirements for the department in preparation for surveys and inspections.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Work Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Chemistry or Biology or related fields
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to be innovate
Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
Ability to lead, develop and motivate staff
Knowledge of basic computer functions and Microsoft Office applications
Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills
Ability to maintain technical competence
Ability to work autonomously and as a team
License/Certifications
- Certified as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology board of registry per CLIA standards. Certification must be completed by the first year of employment and kept current according to ASCP standards
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in technical supervision of a laboratory testing program
