Provides respiratory care for patients in adult, neonatal care, and/or outpatient CPAP centers . Employees may perform ECG, EEG, pulmonary function testing, & bronchoscopy and any other testing as deemed within the scope of practice by national standards.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assesses patient's respiratory status by incorporating relevant clinical information including vital signs, chest X-rays, and ABG values.
  2. Sets-up and monitors mechanical ventilators and performs associated critical care duties such as airway management and tracheal suctioning.
  3. Performs arterial punctures and obtains arterial blood samples from arterial lines. Performs analysis of blood gases.
  4. After Competency completed, may attend high-risk deliveries as member of Neonatal Resuscitation Team with NRP certification.
  5. Performs noninvasive oxygen and carbon dioxide monitoring.
  6. May perform pulmonary function testing and cardiopulmonary exercise testing after training/competency is complete in the Pulmonary Diagnostics Lab (expectation is minimum CPFT credential from NBRC within 1 year of working in the PFT Lab).
  7. May perform surfactant replacement therapy (NICU).
  8. May assess respiratory status of newborn infants upon delivery (NICU).
  9. May perform endotracheal intubation after training/completion of competency on file, and performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation as required.
  10. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injuryaccident to Manager.
  11. May assist physicians with Bronchoscopies in critical care areas.

REQUIRED:

1. Graduation from an accredited respiratory care program with an Associate's degree or equivalent and RRT credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care.

2. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) by the American Heart Association. **NRP is only required when rotating to the NICU or attending deliveries.

3. Maintains proficiency in arterial blood sampling techniques as prescribed by the hospital and/or JCAHO.
