Job Summary:

Instructors are Clinical Faculty at the University of Colorado School of Medicine that will work in the Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) Network of Care (NOC) including Emergency Departments (EDs) in the Denver metro area. The current positions are being recruited to help cover the Anschutz Pediatric ED. In this role, Instructors will provide medical care to acutely ill and injured pediatric patients. They will perform histories, physical examinations, procedures and define and execute appropriate workup that leads to diagnosis with treatment and disposition plan. Instructor also participate in clinical education of students and residents and have opportunities to be involved in Quality Improvement, Section or Hospital Committee work and other activities that support the mission of the Section of Emergency Medicine, University and/or Hospital. The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Provide clinical coverage in a mixed shift model (days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays) for the General Pediatrician Emergency Care Track only. Ability to cover shifts in all Emergency Care facilities is required. Clinical responsibilities include:
- Jeopardy shifts (an internal physician coverage system for unanticipated absences)
- Annual Hourly Clinical Target: 1376 Hours
- Clinical teaching of Medical Students, Physician Assistant Students, Nurse Practitioner Students, Family Practice Residents and Pediatric Residents
- Clinical Supervision and support of onboarding for Advanced Practice Providers
- Attendance and participation in required Section monthly meetings
- Participation in Quality Improvement and development of Clinical Care Guidelines
- Maintenance of skills required for provision of high quality, patient centered, safe urgent/emergent care of children. Annual requirements include but may not be limited to:
- Two half-day Acute Care Education sessions put on by the Section per academic year
- Maintenance of PALS certification
- Maintenance of CME relevant to clinical work
- Attend other technical seminars as deemed necessary by the section and/or practice site in conjunction with input from the Director

Qualifications:
|
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree
- Completed an accredited residency in Pediatrics or combined Medicine-Pediatrics
- Board Certified or eligible in Pediatrics
- Active certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support
- Active Colorado Medical License
- Active Colorado State DEA license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years' experience in pediatric acute care environment (OR completing a Pediatric Residency program with significant experience in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and electives and/or extra-clinical activities that demonstrate clear interest in pediatric acute care)
- Experience teaching medical students and residents
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge:
- Advanced understanding of pediatric disease and injuries
- Understanding of a familiarity with resources to assist making clinical decisions and diagnosis.
Skills:
- Use of electronic medical record (EPIC)
- Teaching of medical learners
Technical skills:
- Initial interpretation of plain radiographs
- Laceration repair
- Minor Incision and drainage
- Nerve blocks
- Foreign body removal
- Reduction of minor digit fractures of joint dislocations
- Acute respiratory care
- ECG interpretation
- Medical Screening Exams
Abilities:
- Work efficiently in a fast-paced, acute care environment for 8-10 hours at a time
- Ability to handle stressful situation with professional composure
- Promote teamwork amongst providers, nurses, techs, learners, and other colleagues
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge and skill in customer service delivery
- Well organized and efficient
- Skill in prioritizing patient and system needs
- Knowledge of quality improvement, family centered care, and evidenced-based practice
- Work a mix of days, evenings, weekends, and possibly overnight shifts
Condition of Employment:
- Must successfully pass a 10-panel drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado
- Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal and sex-offender background check

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE: $189,000 to $250,000 1.0 FTE The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
