About the Department of Biological Sciences

The Department of Biological Sciences educates students across a broad range of sub-disciplines, enrolls the largest number of undergraduate majors in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and is committed to educational excellence as well as the continued hiring of diverse and outstanding new faculty. Description:

The Department of Biological Sciences in the college of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track teaching position with the title of Teaching Professor, rank open (Assistant, Associate, or Full), to begin August 16, 2025. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in a large undergraduate Genetics lecture/discussion course in fall and spring semesters. The Genetics course covers principles of genetics, gene and chromosome structure, gene expression, inheritance of complex traits, Mendelian and non-Mendelian inheritance, genomes, and genetic engineering. Duties include classroom instruction, coordinating multiple discussion sections, contributing to the course curriculum, creating course syllabi and teaching materials, and training/supervising graduate teaching assistants (TAs). Candidates with experience in genetics instruction are especially encouraged to apply.

Position Summary
Full-time non-tenure track teaching position with the title of Teaching Professor, rank open (Assistant, Associate, or Full. Expected to participate in a large undergraduate Genetics lecture/discussion course in fall and spring semesters.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach BIOS 220, Genetics lecture/ discussion in Fall and Spring semesters. Advise students
  • Creating Course Syllabi and teaching materials
  • Training and supervising graduate teaching assistants (TAs)
  • Courses subject to change at discretion of head
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications
    PhD degree, and a demonstrated record of teaching experience

    Preferred Qualifications
    Experience working with TAs is preferred.
