Job Summary/Objective:
We are seeking a Lead Applications Engineer who will drive the growth initiatives of Southwire in the servicing the high volume of residential and commercial customers and the rapid growth of industrial, OEM, and utility end users in North America and internationally. The successful candidate will perform a variety of complex engineering assignments requiring in-depth knowledge of electrical engineering. They will have commercial experience and be proficient in ideating, designing, and implementing commercial-scale service solutions.

The responsibilities include aligning engineering activities with company objectives, driving the spec in the data center, renewable energy (wind, solar, BESS), electric vehicle charging & infrastructure, telecommunication/5G, petrochemical & mining, mass transit, and ports & terminal applications.

The Lead Applications Engineer will interface directly with customers, host in-depth product training, and lead troubleshooting efforts while partnering with agents, distributors, inside & outside sales, operation, and product management to deliver value-adding solutions to electricians, general & electrical contractors, engineers, renewable project owners, and EPCs.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Drive the spec to offer process for emerging industrial vertical markets, including data centers, renewable energy, telecom/5 G, EV infrastructure, mass transit, mining, or applications in harsh environments.
2. Identify customers' technical pain points during the life cycle and translate them into new engineering requirements.
3. Interpret complex electrical wiring designs in AC or DC, including accessories and connectivity with the overall system, to provide the best-in-class installation procedures, innovative hands-on solutions, and field testing.
4. Develop and launch novel service solutions such as Southwire's cable repair kits, emergency nitrogen purging services, and labor-saving estimators.
5. Utilize understanding of electrical power systems and Voice of the Customer to create web- based engineering calculators, industry specific whitepapers, and technical reference documents.
6. Manage and execute technical requests for RFI/RFQ and bid proposals using CableTechSupport's engineering spec website (CableTechSupport.southwire.com) to gain approvals specifically related to government-funded projects to support bipartisan infrastructure bills.
7. Promote CableTechSupportTM Services' branding by generating CableTechTalks customer training videos, authoring whitepapers,, hosting live webinars, and serving as a thought leader in industry.
8. Lead codes and standards development activities and drive the spec through the adoption of new requirements

Education, Experience, and Skills

Required

Minimum Education Level: Bachelor's

Certificates: A minimum of 15 years of equivalent experience in the Electrical Industry

Years of Experience: 15+

Field of Expertise: Electrical Engineering: application support and/or product engineering experience in the Wire and Cable, Power, Utility, Manufacturing, or Electrical Industry is required. Hands-on experience in cable splice & terminations and connectors is a must.

Preferred

Minimum Education Level: Master's

Specialized Degree: Master's degree in Engineering

Certificates: Professional Engineer (PE)

Years of Experience: 15+

Preferred Field of Expertise: Extensive field experience in residential, commercial, telecom, or utility installations is highly desirable.

Other Preferred Skills, Licenses, & Certificates: Optical fiber termination, testing, and connectivity.
