Director of Film Internships and Los Angeles Studies - Dietrich College - English Department

The English Department, part of the Dietrich College, is seeking a Director of Film Internships and Los Angeles Studies.

Reporting to the Head of the English Department, the responsibilities will include identifying internship opportunities, identifying space for the Professional Seminar that will be associated with the internship program; and identifying housing options for the students who would travel to Los Angeles to participate in the internships during the summer months. Over the course of the summer months, this position will direct the internship program, and including teaching.

Excellent organizational, planning, problem-solving, and communications skills are essential in this role. The Director will lead the Film Internships and Los Angeles Studies program while providing guidance and direction to program faculty and students. This is a fully remote position located in Los Angeles, CA.

Core Responsibilities Include:
  • AY 2024-2025: identify internship opportunities for up to 5 Film and Visual Media students in the English Department at Carnegie Mellon; identify space for the Professional Seminar that will be associated with the internship; identify housing options for the students who would travel to Los Angeles
  • Summer 2025: direct the internship, by teaching a 2-hour Professional Seminar weekly and supporting students' internship related needs
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
  • Master's degree or an equivalent level of education and experience
  • 3-5 years of instructional experience in higher education and/or film studies
  • Experience in professional film and media industry
  • Excellent oral and written skills communication skills and strong organizational skills
  • Proficient with Google Gmail, Google Calendar, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Excellent planning and analytical skills, ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and to understand and follow directions
  • Ability to use interpersonal skills, be highly motivated and a self-starter
  • Ability to work effectively as a part of a team
  • Adaptability and openness to change as the organization evolves
Additional Requirements:

Accountability and Direction: Establishes priorities in consultation with the Department Head and other senior leaders, then plans and executes own and/or unit work. Interprets and applies policies and procedures to ensure consistent administration and compliance for specific project work. Ensures follow through on all aspects of an assignment or project to completion.

Decision Making: Responsible for managing meeting priorities and scheduling with consideration for order of importance and to avoid conflicts with overlapping events. Responsible for independent coordination and preparation of internship programs.

Working Conditions: Ability to work in an open-office setting; close contact with computer monitor for extended periods of time. Weekend and evening hours may be required. Availability via mobile device outside of standard work hours may be required.

Physical and Mental Requirements: Ability to maintain composure in handling difficult situations; and attention to detail.

In accordance with the pay transparency legislation set forth by California (CA) the corresponding pay range for this position, if placed in California (CA) ranges between $60-$70/hr."
