Southwire Job Description

As we grow and expand our operations, we want to ensure we are built for a long-term vision and continue to be a critical partner for the future of North American infrastructure. The main purpose of this role is to provide engineering expertise for the delivery of Southwire's overall operational sustainability strategy. This role will be highly visible and will partner with members of Southwire's organization with project execution, engineering, maintenance, and process-related improvements or practices. The successful candidate will be expected to drive the initiatives via a high level of communication and collaboration in combination with technical aptitude and agility in the changing world of sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical project and design reviews of heavy industrial manufacturing infrastructure systems including but not limited to boiler/steam/hot water systems, chilled water systems, potable water systems, compressed air systems, and HVAC to optimize and provide the most efficient, reliable and value to our customers (sites).
  • As a key member of the sustainability team, provide experience (including training) in executing all appropriate engineering assessments including LCC (life cycle costs), sustainability metrics and BVOA (best value options analysis) for all relevant capital projects.
  • Responsible for identifying ideas and opportunities that will drive cost effective sustainable designs and customer value from the concept phase of the CAPEX project.
  • Partner with Site leaders with the creation and revision of equipment standards and specifications, RFPs, and overall system selection criteria.
  • Provide Engineering expertise surrounding brown and greenfield site expansions with the deployment of Southwire sustainability design (LEED or equivalent) guidelines.
  • Collaboration and Communication with key stakeholders to deliver value to our customers (CSCs and manufacturing sites). Connect and build strength with other functions - being a key partner to corporate engineering, operations, and EHS
  • Responsible for creating capital projects from concept (project charter) to execution, including the associated financial acumen and managing bid documents/processes.
  • Responsible for creating utility roadmaps and site masterplans for all plant locations.
  • Will partner with various stakeholders to lead vertical start-ups and related processes.
  • EHS - Promote health and safety in all aspects of the work. Include environmental considerations in the decision-making process.
Requirements

Minimum Education Level: Bachelor's
Specialized Degree: Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or Related
Certificates: Driver's License
Years of Experience: 10+
Field of Expertise: Industrial/Manufacturing, Utilities Design Experience

Preferred
Minimum Education Level: Master's
Specialized Degree: Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or Related
Certificates: Professional Engineer
Years of Experience: 15+
Preferred Field of Expertise: Industrial/Manufacturing Plant Experience

Other Preferred Skills, Licenses, & Certificates:
Utilities Design and optimization including HVAC systems, chilled water systems, steam systems, compressed air systems, monitoring and control systems, pumping, wastewater treatment, & water treatment.

Knowledge in green building design, EMS/BMS, energy audit/management, ASHRAE codes, retro commissioning, power systems and water stewardship is a plus. LEED certification experience is a plus.
