The work County government does is unique. There are many meaningful careers that make a real difference in the lives of the citizens of Dakota County. We do everything from protecting children to protecting the environment. We pave and plow roads, provide spectacular parks, and manage premier libraries. We prosecute criminals, run a jail and monitor thousands of offenders on probation or parole. But there’s more. We keep property and vital records, issue a variety of licenses and permits, and run elections. We protect the health of communities, take care of the vulnerable and work to eliminate poverty.
Dakota County employs nearly 1800 individuals whose talent and contributions makes Dakota County a premier place to live and work. We consists of four divisions, 27 departments that work in 20 locations across the County including three primary service centers, nine public libraries, a transportation maintenance facility, and other smaller facilities.
